UXPL Event 4

Desert Edge Takes 2nd Place at UXPL Event 4

The 4th UXPL event of the year brought Desert Edge a huge comeback from the previous event in which we placed 11th. It was an extremely hot day at the Davis County Farigrounds, and along with some hot tempers on the field it made for a long day of play.

Desert Edge started out the day very strong, with big wins against Mindless Reaction, Aardvark Factory and Turd Burglars. We played Evo in our fourth game and had a 1 for 1 called on us off the break, losing our entire right side for us and Evo then swept through and maxed us out. We maxed the next game against Cold Front however, so points were stacking high for the team from early on. Our sixth game against Vanilla Weasels came out with low points unfortunately. We had a bad break and lost Thanh quickly, followed by Jordan and I walking to the dead box. Devin and Bralen held down their lanes and slowly picked off the remaining players, finished by Bralen bunkering out the last player. Sadly, on the way back to the flag station time ran out as Bralen was about 3 steps away from hanging the flag so we ended up with only 44 points for that game instead of 94. The final prelim game of the day was against Violent Child and they put up an extremely hard fight for the team. We weren't able to pull a win out of the game, but thankfully still made it into finals as the second seed for group 2.

Our first opponent for the finals was Frantic. We pulled two big, quick wins out of the games. The finals didn't fare as well for the team, again facing Violent Child trying to pull out a first place win. They made quick work of us our first game, eliminating our back line in quick fashion and sealing the win. The second game was a much harder battle. Thanh took the center 50 off the break, going in under an enormous amount of paint. We double stacked our back center bunker with Bralen and Jordan for heavy lanes, but Violent Child responded quickly and took out Bralen. We held tight til Thanh got hit, and then we had to adjust. I took the snake and Jordan filled my spot in the right stand up. With a 3 on 2 advantage, we thought we had the game, but Devin got a call for a 1 for 1 and they pulled out Jordan with him. This left me stranded in the snake, so I made my desperation move and prayed. Didn't work out so well, and I left the field with alot of paint on me.

We took second place for the event, putting us barely behind Team Basic for the first place in the season standings.
